A tale from the branches
How our house came to be, as told by Thistle Farfield: faery, father, and keeper of very few lists.
I
My dear hoomans, how lovely that you've visited us. You've arrived in Imagnary House, the home of faeries, gnomes, mice, and more. It's a wildly magical home for us, and grows new stories each day for all to enjoy, whether faery or hooman.
But before you sneak about and discover its wonders, we'd love to tell you the tale of where it came from...
II
Not so long ago, a hooman with a tall, pointy hat (perhaps he was a wizard?) was riding his horse down this very road.
When all of a sudden, a brightly coloured bean fell out of his pocket, and bounced along the pavement.
III
As luck would have it, a star had been knocked out of the sky at just that moment by a too-tall giant who wasn't paying attention to where he jumped on his trampoline.
(Giants are always a bit clumsy, aren't they?)
IV
As the star fell from the sky, the bean had settled into the corner of an old hooman post office beside a train station, and BOOM!
The star struck that bean in a blinding flash, exploding in a moonlit magic, and causing something to grow... and grow and grow.
V
The bean grew into a tree, that itself made that old post office come alive... and instead of sweet-smelling flowers, it instead grew candle-lit rooms and secret passageways and cute nooks and nice crannies and hideaway places that only opened at certain times of day.
It grew into an imaginary house, and attracted all sorts of creatures and faery folk.
VI
Soon enough, word had spread, and a few of us faery folk found ourselves moving into Imagnary House (because spelling it normally for such a wonderful place feels quite wrong, doesn't it?).
The residents change regularly, as faery folk like to come and go, but you might find some very intelligent mice (Mr and Mrs Tupps, and little Tot), my very own family of faeries (Tulip, Rosie, Cotton and Thistle, that's me!), the girls' pet snails (Plip and Plop), some rather naughty gnomes (Glib and Gob, so watch out), Rustle the cheeky grey squirrel and Robin, who is a robin.
VII
Do your best to find us hidden amongst the branches and bookshelves of Imagnary House... and if you find a door or a window, don't be afraid to knock! Though, we do tend to be shy, as hoomans are so much bigger than ourselves.
But we'd love to hear from you. Write us a letter, pop it in the post box with a faery stamp so it finds its way to us... and we'll write back!
VIII
The wonderful thing about being a home to curious creatures and magical faery folk is that Imagnary House has become a library of our most fascinating tales (we even collect some hooman stories).
Oodles of great gab and unending fireside stories, heaps of laughable letters and bunches of enviable adventures! Rosie and Cotton even leave their toys out sometimes. And it's all... At. Your. Fingertips.
IX
So, welcome. Step into our Imagnary House, and make your own story.
With all our hope that you'll be friends,
Thistle Farfield(and all the residents of Imagnary House)
